Little Rock, Ark (AP) — Donald Trump’s former chief spokeswoman and one of his closest aides, Sarah Sanders, ran for Governor of Arkansas on Monday for impeachment of the former president’s legacy. Despite being cloudy, he announced that he was competing for political status. Instigated a deadly siege at the US Capitol.

A former White House spokesman who resigned in 2019 and returned to his home state began bidding as the former president faced an impeachment trial less than a week after Trump’s term of office ended.

But her announcement reflected how much, if not his rhetoric, bright red Arkansas voters expected to accept the former president.

“Your governor is your last line of defense, as radicals now dominate Washington,” Sanders said in a video announcing her bid. “In fact, the Governor needs to be at the forefront, so today I announce my candidacy for the Governor of Arkansas.”

Sanders, the daughter of former Governor Mike Huckabee, was widely expected to run for office after leaving the White House — and Trump publicly advised her to go. She has spoken to Republican groups throughout the state and has laid the foundation for her candidacy.

Sanders will participate in the Republican primary, which already includes two state-wide elected leaders, Lieutenant Tim Griffin and Attorney General Leslie Rutledge. The three are running to replace the current Republican governor Asa Hutchinson, who will not be able to run next year due to term restrictions. No Democrat has announced a bid to run for the seat.

Sanders began bidding weeks after the deaths of five people in a riot by Trump supporters at the US Capitol. More than 130 people have been indicted in a riot aimed at stopping President Joe Biden’s proof of victory over Trump.

Sanders was the first working mother and third woman to serve as White House Press Secretary. However, she also faced questions about her credibility during her time as Trump’s chief spokesman.

A daily television briefing led by a spokesman after Sanders repeatedly sparred with a reporter who actively asked her about political policies and Trump’s campaign and possible coordination between Russia during her nearly two-year tenure. Is finished. However, Sanders has won the respect of reporters who work behind the scenes to develop relationships with the media.

Trump’s noisy exit from the presidency may cause little damage to the Sanders of Arkansas. Republicans not only hold all seats in Arkansas and federal parliamentarians, but also hold a solid majority in both Houses of Parliament.

In November Trump won the state with nearly 28 percent points, one of the largest margins of the final defeat to Biden. Sanders’ nearly eight-minute video features a prominent photo of Trump, including references to his favorite targets such as “Cultural Cancellation,” Socialism, and the Green New Deal.

Griffin and Latledge have been positioning themselves ahead of Sanders’ announcement, lining up support from the state’s top Republicans, and spending months raising money. Together, the two raised over $ 2.8 million.

The race can be even more crowded. Republican Senator Jim Hendren, Hutchinson’s nephew, is considering running for a seat.

Sanders, who published the book last year and joined Fox News as a contributor after leaving the White House, will race with a far higher profile than any candidate. She remains uncertain about many of the state’s biggest problems, but her announcement called for cutting state income taxes and stopping funding cities that violate immigration law.
