Copenhagen, Denmark (AP) —The Danish government said Wednesday that it would seek parliamentary support to reintroduce the obligation to wear face masks in public places as cases of coronavirus increase.

The new regulations are specifically for public transport, hospitals, medical facilities and stores. It will also expand the use of the country’s COVID-19 digital pass.

Denmark, like many other countries, is seeing an increase in infectious diseases, and health officials say the number of cases and hospitalizations are increasing faster than expected.

“The Delta variant is much more contagious and it challenges us,” said Secretary of Health and Welfare Magnus Hunicke. “Therefore, you need to use these tools.”

“Face masks are annoying, but we can live with them,” said Soeren Brostroem, chief of the National Health Commission. “It’s a shame they have to come back, but they need it.”

Earlier this month, Denmark reintroduced Digital COVID. It’s been a few months since the 19th pass was completed and the restrictions were phased out. This pass now applies to nightclubs, cafes, party baths, indoor restaurants, as well as outdoor events with over 2,000 people. The government also wants its use in public works, higher education, hair dressings, and tattoo parlors, but it requires parliamentary approval.

If passed by Congress, the reintroduction of face masks and the extended use of digital passes will begin on November 29th. The majority seems to support the proposal by the minority social democratic government.

Henrik Ullum, director of the Statens Serum Institut, a government agency that maps the epidemic of the coronavirus in Scandinavian countries, called the vaccine “our superweapon.” We are trying to weaken our immunity, so we need a third jab. ”

Denmark has stated that it will offer booster shots, starting with the elderly and the vulnerable.
