Landmark homes built before the Great Chicago Fire damaged in the Austin area fire

CHICAGO — Firefighters extinguished a fire in one of Chicago’s oldest homes early Thursday morning.

The fire broke out around 1 a.m. on the top floor of the Seth P. Warner House in the 600th block of North Central in the Austin area.

The two people inside the house were able to escape safely and no one else was injured. A 150-year-old house was destroyed in a fire.

The house was designated a landmark by the city last year. This building was built in his 1869 and is one of his few surviving homes from before the Great Chicago Fire. It is said to be the oldest house in the Austin area.

The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.

Seth Warner was one of Chicago’s early settlers. According to city documents, the house was more like a museum, a place for art and music, and a residence for several families.

The current owner has lived in the house for many years.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
