Prague (AP) — Czech President Miloš Zeman was discharged from a military hospital in the capital on Saturday after testing positive for the coronavirus.

Zeman, 77, had already been discharged after being treated for an unspecified illness for more than a month on Thursday, but was readmitted hours after a positive coronavirus test.

The president received a monoclonal antibody, which is the standard treatment for people in the risk group. He has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including boosters. Zeman has no symptoms of COVID-19, the hospital said.

On October 10, the day after the House of Representatives election, he was rushed to the hospital and treated in the intensive care unit. His condition was due to an unspecified chronic illness.

Zeman, a heavy smoker and drinker suffering from diabetes, has walking problems and is in a wheelchair.

Cheong Wa Dae said Zeman plans to swear on Sunday as the new prime minister of the country at Petrfiara, the leader of the winning coalition.

The ceremony was scheduled to take place on Friday, but it did not happen due to the president’s new hospitalization.

The secretariat said the ceremony would be held in line with current coronavirus control, but details were unknown. Those who test positive should be quarantined in the Czech Republic for two weeks.

The country is facing a record surge with a new wave of infectious diseases. Thursday’s new daily increase hit a record high of nearly 28,000. The infection rate was 1,207 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 7 days.

Overall, 10.7 million countries have enrolled more than 2.1 million cases and 32,744 have died.
