Chicago Weather: Tornado Reported in DuPage County, Damage Reported in Woodridge, Naperville

Woodridge, Illinois (WLS)-Heavy storms reportedly caused heavy rain and damaging winds throughout the Chicago area, causing a tornado to land and cause tremendous damage to DuPage County on Sunday night. Brought.

A large tornado was reported in southern DuPage County, radared, and reported by a local storm spotter around 11:10 pm on Sunday. The National Meteorological Service is expected to confirm its strength and course on Monday.

The tornado began in Naperville before moving to Woodridge. According to Woodridge police, the tornado occurred between 83 and 75 east of Route 53. The tornado then moved eastward into the Lemont Road area.

The tornado then moved to the Darien and Burridge areas. ABC & meteorologist Tracy Butler said the tornado could have traveled as much as 15 miles.

Police have reported no serious injuries, but have been urged to avoid the area due to the damage.

The NWS evaluates the strength of tornadoes. ABC7 meteorologists Butler and Larry Morley said the damage to Woodridge’s trees and homes could probably be a tornado from EF2 to EF3.

Three people were injured and a gas leak was reported in Naperville, with reports of damage and down power lines to Woodridge and Burridge in Darien.

A video from Woodridge showed widespread storm damage, even large trees breaking at the roots. In Woodridge, one house was missing the entire second floor, while the other had damaged roofs and garages.

Morley said the area was the most violent tornado I’ve seen in a long time, and the extent of the damage seems to be large, especially because of its wedge shape. Meteorologist Phil Schwartz says that northeastern Illinois has recently experienced a large number of larger tornadoes, but far more rural areas with lower population densities.

The magnitude of the damage makes it difficult for paramedics to reach those who may need help. Some paramedics are trying to reach out to someone in need of help, while others are helping to clear the road and get through.
