Chicago Highway Shooting: Illinois State Police Report 60 Incidents in Cook County So far This Year

Chicago (WLS)-Illinois State Police said the shooting at Eisenhower near Cicero Avenue on Friday night was the 60th Chicagoland Regional Highway shooting this year.

At around 9:27 pm, police said a 30-year-old Chicago man was attacked by an unknown vehicle. The 25-year-old woman was not injured.

Of the 60 shootings in 2021, 14 occurred on Interstate 290, police said.

Shooting on the Cook County highway has skyrocketed in the last two years.

In 2020, 128 shootings were reported. This was more than double the 2019 incident with 52 shootings.

In February, state police announced that they had received $ 12.5 million to install high-resolution surveillance cameras to address the increase in highway shootings at 47 locations.

The dedicated camera can read the license plate number even when the vehicle is in transit.
