London (AP) — West Ham has proven to be a huge stumbling block for England’s top teams, but the London club needed a bit of luck to ensure the victory of the latest statement.
West Ham beat Chelsea 3-2 at home on Saturday, coming from behind twice to rock the Premier League title race. As a result, visitors are no longer at the top of the standings.
Liverpool quickly gained an advantage as Divock Origi’s injured goal beat Wolverhampton 1-0, putting Jurgen Klopp’s team in first place. Manchester City had a chance to later defeat Watford to take the lead.
David Moyes’ West Ham has already handed Liverpool the only defeat in the league, defeating Tottenham and knocking out both Manchester clubs from the League Cup. This victory highlighted Hammer’s own top four qualifications, even though he needed a slow goal to complete his comeback.
Arthur Masuaku fired a speculative cross in the 87th minute from the left side, heading towards the goal and surprised Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy. Mendy put out a dove to keep the ball out, but he could only push the ball into a post near himself.
“It was a little lucky goal,” Moise admitted. “But you have to put the ball in the box, you have to try it.”
Liverpool missed many opportunities after Origi was set up by Mohamed Salah and before he finally secured the victory.
Newcastle won their first league title in 15 attempts after Callum Wilson’s first half goal, which defeated fellow relegated Burnley 1-0.
Neal Maupay recorded eight minutes of injury time to save Brighton’s one-on-one draw in Southampton.
