Archdiocese of Chicago asks three retired priests to step down as pastors amid sexual abuse investigation

Chicago (CBS) — The Archdiocese of Chicago has shunned three priests from their pastor during an investigation into allegations of sexual abuse involving minors.

The priests are Father John Rudnick, 87, Father James Flynn, 80, and Father John Clemens, 75.

The allegations date back nearly 50 years.

All priests are now retired and the Archdiocese says it is cooperating with the investigation.

“We take all allegations seriously and follow the policies and procedures that we have had in place for decades,” said Cardinal Brass J. Cupick, Archbishop of Chicago. “Only by conducting an impartial and thorough investigation can we fulfill our promise to protect the young people we protect, and if the results are justified, the reputation of those so accused. can be recovered.”
