British warship shipwreck explored with space age tracking technology

London, August 23 (Xinhua)-A team of divers used space-era technology to investigate the ruins of one of Britain’s most important 17th-century shipwrecks, the London warship. Cultural institution Historic England said on Monday.

Underwater diver tracking systems can be used to pinpoint ship characteristics and record some of the ships picked up in previous surveys. This technology works like satellite navigation.

“The data collected will be used to create a comprehensive digital site plan. This detailed map will be the basis for providing information to the ongoing management of this protected shipwreck site. “Historic England said.

The warship London, part of the squadron that brought Charles II back to the throne from the Netherlands in 1660, was accidentally blown up in 1665 at the mouth of the Thames near Southend Pier in Essex County.

Since then, shipwrecks have remained in two parts on the seabed at the mouth of the river. Now, 355 years later, professional divers have finally mapped a shipwreck using a state-of-the-art underwater diver tracking system.
