Braves Eye World Series Journey in Game 5 of Los Angeles | WGN Radio 720

Los Angeles — Freddie Freeman revealed late Wednesday night that he wasn’t willing to compare surprisingly similar scenarios.

Freeman and the Atlanta Braves, who climbed 3-1 in the National League Championship Series last year, were overwhelmed by the Los Angeles Dodgers and missed the chance to play in the World Series.

A year later, the Braves took an additional 3-1 lead in the Dodgers, advancing to the club’s first World Series since 1999, winning Game 5 in Los Angeles on Thursday.

So when asked about the difference between last year and this time, Freeman’s answer seemed quick and ready.

“Twenty-one,” Freeman shrugged. That is the difference.

What that means is that Freeman wasn’t looking back. Only this year. The Braves, a mediocre team with less than .500 trading deadlines this season, has been transformed by the influx of outfielders through multiple deals.

Eddie Rosario, Adam Duvall and Joc Pederson were all acquired in July, all affecting both the regular season and the playoffs, including a 9-2 win in Game 4. Jorge Soler was also acquired and he is on the COVID-19 injured list.

Rosario’s four hits in Game 4, including two home runs, led the way to victory. Rosario needed a one-cycle double at the last at bat, so instead of hitting a three-run dagger, he hit another ball over the wall. Duval hit a home run and Pederson had an RBI single to give him five hits and four RBIs in the series against his previous team.

“He was almost incredible after this season,” Freeman said of the Rosary. Rosario also scored four hits in Game 2 and hit .467 (14-30) in eight post-season games in Atlanta. “When we exchanged for him, he was injured and it took him about a month to go …. he just looks at the plate very well.”

In Game 5, the Braves play from a local angle, sending the Los Angeles native Max Fried to the mound. Freed, who gave up two runs in six innings without a decision during Game 1, has 3.00 ERA against the Dodgers in seven playoffs over three seasons.

The Dodgers will try to keep the season alive with a bullpen game on Thursday. I know right-handed Max Scherzer is waiting to start Game 6 in Atlanta on Saturday.

However, the Dodgers splattered in the playoffs, alternating between positive and disappointing results. In 10 playoff games, Los Angeles won only one consecutive contest. The attacks were inconsistent, the club stopped the Braves in a row, and trusted starters Walker Buehler and Julio Urias were frustrated.

Still, the Dodgers were confident in their defeat on Tuesday.

“I don’t want to turn my back on the wall. That’s not the way you create it,” said Los Angeles manager Dave Roberts. “But we have a very resilient team, a very tough team. It’s not as difficult as playing Max Fried in an elimination game, but I’ve done it before. We really believe we are ready to win the ball game (Thursday). “

Third baseman Justin Turner is likely to be out of the rest of the postseason due to a hamstring injury on Wednesday seven innings, so Roberts is well-planned to change the lineup. Veteran Albert Pujols will start from first baseman in Game 5.
