“Betty is another person and it feels like everyone wants to celebrate her. Everyone wants to be like Betty,” said Lourdes Nichols, a resident of Oak Park. Says.
It was a shock for many to see White dies on New Year’s EveAbout two weeks before she turned 100, she knew that her hometown of Oak Park had to continue the party.
“I came up with Betty White’s words I heard a long time ago. She said,’I can’t be a professional mourning.’ So I thought we were still moving forward, and that would be great. Probably, “Nichols said.
The Celebration of life A few guest speakers and special events from local downtown shops will be held on Saturday at 10am.
Some offer pet adoption, while others brew special latte in honor of the late actress and comedian.
“Well, that’s from her personality, her show: Rose, so we definitely want to do something with it,” said Wise Cup owner Sivangi Ketalpal. “It’s very exciting. We love to be part of the community. All of our staff are from this area.”
It’s no wonder Betty White has such a special celebration. Many in Oak Park have idolized her, and this weekend the downtown area has been taken over by the people of White’s hometown, where you can see some of her most loved ones.
“Red Vine is Betty’s favorite dessert, and Red Vine donated some boxes at the event,” Nichols said.
There are also some white cardboard cutouts along downtown and 100 cakes with her face on it.
I’m not sure what her hometown can expect from this event, but I’m excited about the celebration.
“At first, will five people come? And now it probably feels like 5,000-I don’t know, but I’m ready,” Nichols said.
She would have been 100 years old on January 17th.
