All-night vigil in honor of murdered Oak Forest family set for Monday night

Oak Forest, Illinois — A memorial service will be held Monday night in memory of the victims (a mother and two children) who died in a domestic violence attack in Oak Forest last Friday.

Lupe Gomez, 43, Brianna Rodriguez, 22, Emilio Rodriguez, 20 Friday at 6:30 am.

According to eyewitnesses, Carlos Gomez fled home and barricaded the house. Police said he then set fire to it.

The Cook County coroner later confirmed that Carlos Gomez was found shot in the head inside his home.

When police arrived on the scene, they found two of the victims in the driveway and one on the street. All were taken to hospital but later died. Two younger brothers and sisters (teenage girls) ran away from home unharmed.

Neighbors reported that Lupe Gomez wanted a divorce after seeing police activity at the house recently.

Her husband, Carlos Gomez, was arrested in December 2016 for assault and domestic violence, according to police records.

At the Monday night vigil, organizers will hand out purple candles to raise awareness of domestic violence. It will begin at 7:00 PM at Oak Forest City Hall.
