Arrest warrant issued for a man charged with fleeing a police officer when Adam Toledo was fatally shot after skipping court

A Chicago police officer answered a phone call about a shooting in Little Village and an arrest warrant was issued to a man detained when he fatally shot 13-year-old Adam Toledo last month.

Police said a police officer who answered the call on March 29 said he saw Toledo and 21-year-old Ruben Roman Jr. standing in an alley west of 2300 blocks on South Sawyer Avenue.

Both Toledo and Roman ran, police said, leading police officers to shoot Toledo deadly during an “armed conflict.” Mayor Lori Wrightfoot told reporters Monday that Toledo has “an irreversible change in the course of his life, and a weapon that has changed.”

Roman was detained nearby, charged with resisting arrest, and released from the police station on a May court date, according to Cook County law firm.

“Like the misdemeanor charges here, misdemeanor charges are filed directly by the police station, and if someone is arrested for misdemeanor charges and receives a deposit from the police station, the state lawyer’s office will not be warned. “A spokeswoman for the department said Thursday. E-mail statement.

Toledo’s family told the Chicago Sun-Times They don’t know Rome.

According to court records, Roman was scheduled to appear on Wednesday at a hearing related to another 2019 gun case under probation.

The Romans did not attend the hearing and the arrest warrant was issued by Judge Timothy Chambers.

According to court records, Roman was sentenced to probation in July 2019 after pleading guilty to a single count of illegal use of weapons.

Information on the circumstances of the case was not immediately available.

Five months later, the prosecutor filed his first petition, alleging that the Romans violated the conditions of his probation. Additional petitions alleging probation breaches were filed in March and August last year, according to a state law firm.

At a hearing the Romans did not appear on Wednesday, the county’s probation office filed a new petition that he had violated probation in his recent arrest, a spokeswoman said.
