Champaign — Champaign-based agribusiness The Andersons’ grain assets were purchased by Effingham’s Total Grain Marketing.
The sale, which was completed on Friday, did not include Andersons’ bulk fertilizer business in Champaign, the two companies said.
Total Grain Marketing, a full-service grain company that operates 41 grain elevators, is a Bloomington-based venture company of Growthmark Inc., Illini FS, South Central FSA, and Wabash Valley Service Company.
According to Growmark, the Champaign Grain Elevator currently owned by Total Grain Marketing is the largest in Illinois with a storage capacity of over 16 million bushels.
“We opened a grain warehouse in Champaign in 1968 and expanded our loyal customer base by focusing on strong relationships and providing exceptional service,” said Andersons Trade and Processing President. Bill Krueger said. “We value the relationships we have built and we are delighted that our customers will continue to be serviced by total grain marketing.”
Matt Lurkins, Executive Director of Growmark Grain Division, said Andersons’ champagne facilities and assets complement Total Grain Marketing’s existing portfolio.
“Our goal is to provide an outstanding customer experience and improve customer profitability through local grain market expertise and merchandising flexibility,” says Lurkins.
According to Growmark, the acquisition will also open a new railroad market for Total Grain Marketing and increase access to the US poultry market.
