Seattle (AP) —Amazon said Monday that many technicians and corporate workers could continue to work remotely and indefinitely as long as they could commute to the office when needed.
The new policy was announced in a blog post, from Amazon’s previous prediction that most employees will need to be in the office at least three days a week when the office reopens from the COVID-19 pandemic in January. It’s a change.
The Seattle Times reported Monday’s message was signed by Amazon CEO Andy Jassy, and company directors said they had the discretion to allow the team to continue working remotely.
“I hope there will be teams that mostly work remotely, teams that work in a combination of remote and office, and even teams that decide that it’s best to work mostly in the office,” Jassy said. Mr. writes.
Most of the more than 1 million global employees of online retail giants around the world perform their duties in the company’s fulfillment and transportation departments, take orders and deliver them to their customers, so they can’t work remotely. ..
However, about 50,000 technicians and office employees work at the company’s vast headquarters in downtown Seattle’s campus and the city’s South Lake Union district. Their absence will hurt nearby restaurants and other businesses.
Amazon’s reinstatement policy update followed similar moves from other major tech companies. Microsoft announced last month that it had postponed the reopening of its office indefinitely.
