Alder Lake-S Core i9-12900K leak suggests that performance can be overwhelming

a few days ago Architecture Day 2021 Event, Intel, among other things, discussed the upcoming Alder Lake CPU architecture, which features a big.LITTLE core design similar to the Arm processor. Intel calls this approach a performance hybrid architecture. Optimized to work with Microsoft’s next-generation Windows 11 OS..

From a performance perspective, Intel has promised an instruction per cycle (IPC) increase of approximately 19% over previous generation Rocket Lake-S processors in various benchmarks.

Performance leaks related to the 16-core, 24-thread (16C / 24T) flagship Alder Lake-S desktop processor (called the Core i9-12900K (8 P-core, 8 E-core)) have also occurred before. Intel processors were easily claimed to be doing their best Cinebench R20 16C / 32T Ryzen 9 5950X In Intel’s internal test.

Today, a real application test in the form of Adobe After Effects was discovered by Twitter Leak Star. Bench leak It is in the PugetBench database of Puget Systems.

VideoCardz found a total of three tests using the i9-12900K. These have been tested on ASUS ROG STRIX Z690 motherboards in combination with GeForce RTX 3090. For comparison, the recent 8C / 16T Rocket Lake-S Core i9-11900K results were also dug into almost the same system. The motherboard and memory were different because the 11900K was running on a DDR4-2133 dual channel 64GB system, while the new 12900K was a DDR5-4800 dual channel 64GB.

Differences in memory speed are reflected in the After Effects (AE) RAM preview score. However, be careful. AE is much more sensitive to RAM capacity Not speed. Therefore, the final render score is not significantly affected by high RAM previews on Alder Lake-S machines.

Of the three Core i9-12900K test results mentioned above, the highest rendering score is about 11.5% faster than the 11900K result. (Click the result image below to enlarge)

The performance seen here is much lower than Intel’s claim of 19% IPC gain, but keep in mind that the clock speed is completely unknown. However, previous rumors have shown that Alder Lake-S A clock with the same height as Rocket Lake-S is also possible. In that case, the results can be somewhat disappointing, at least for AE users, if they were running at the potential final retail speeds such rumors suggest.
