Alabama band debuting at Macy’s Thanksgiving | Entertainment

Tuscaloosa, Alabama (AP) — The University of Alabama’s Million Dollar Band will debut at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.

Tuscaloosa News reports that the band will play “Santa Claus is coming to town” and will escort Santa on the float at the end of the parade. Tuscaloosa News report.

The morning parade will air on NBC and its streaming service Peacock.

The Million Dollar Band was one of two college bands of choice. This marks the band’s first Macy’s Thanksgiving appearance in 1912.

The Tuscaloosa newspaper reported that the organizers of the parade selected UAs from more than 100 applicants based on sound and appearance, along with biographies and testimonials.

Drilling work on the parade began about six weeks ago, and Macy’s performance grid was marked on Tuscaloosa’s Butler Field. The practice space is named after Colonel Carlton K. Butler, director of the Million Dollar Band from 1935 to 1968.

According to band officials, extra work was needed to adapt to the streets of the city and accommodate the magnificent entrance to Santa Claus. The parade route runs from Central Park to Macy’s Store on 34th Street.

Kenneth Ozello, director of the Million Dollar Band since 2002, said: You can see the store behind it. This makes it easier to adapt from the soccer field to Manhattan. “

The parade ends near Seventh Avenue. “That’s why it’s wider than most places, but it’s still difficult to get 400 people in that place, but there was plenty of time.”
