Lake Buena Vista, Florida (AP) — Ochaiag Bazi added 18 points and Christian Braun added 16 points as Fourth Kansas defeated North Texas 71-59 in the first round of ESPN Event Invitational on Thursday.

Agbazi became the 63rd player in Kansas history to reach 1,000 points when he started scoring by hitting 3 in the two and a half minutes of the game. The guards entered the game just one point away from the milestone.

North Texas (2-2) scored 23 points from Tyler Perry. All other Mean Green scorers picked up a fifth foul in the middle of the second half and were kept in the single digits, including Thomas Bell, who finished with 9 points.

KU (4-0) climbed to 46-31 early in the second half, thanks to Remy Martin shooting a long-distance shot and Brown playing three points after stealing. Martin, who scored 15 points, has recently been slowed down by back discomfort.

Dunk by Agbaji and another Martin 3 extended his advantage to 53-35 with 14 minutes remaining.

Wilson Returns

Kansas forward Jalen Wilson scored 7 points in 18 minutes in the first match of the season. He was suspended for the first three regular season games after being arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.

Long distance

North Texas was 27-4 in a 3-point try, while Kansas was 6 out of 14.

Big picture

Kansas: We scored more than 87 points in each of the first three games, with a two-and-a-half and three-and-a-half-minute drought in the first half and another two-and-a-half-minute drought in the second half.

North Texas: Returning only six players from the 2020-21 team, winning the fourth NCAA tournament trip at school and winning the first ever tournament with a 78-69 overtime victory over Purdue. ..
