Despite a significant reduction in traffic during the first few years of the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of motor vehicle fatalities in the United States did not decrease.
2020, 38,824 dead Traffic accidents increased by nearly 7% compared to 2019. It was also the highest number of vehicle fatalities since 2007.
This number is even more surprising when you consider that the total number of reported crashes actually decreased by 22% over the same period. In other words, the lower the number of car accidents, the higher the fatality rate and the higher the rate of crashes, resulting in at least one fatality. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that nearly half of all fatal crashes in 2020 will be due to one of several common denominators, such as speeding, impaired driving, or failure to use safety belts.
Staber Injury Law Firm Collecting data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration 2020 Mortality Analysis Reporting System Determine when the most fatalities occur for each day of the week. To be included in the data, the collision had to occur within the United States (including Washington, DC and Puerto Rico). It must have happened on a roadway open to the public. Fatal motor vehicle accidents do not always result in crash fatalities, so there were fatalities associated with it within 30 days of the incident.
Like many federal agencies, NHTSA’s statistical reports on various traffic and road safety-related figures are not made public until a maximum of 12 months after the end of the reporting period (usually once every one or two years). Hmm. Therefore, on May 17, 2022 of the agency, provisional estimate Of the 2021 traffic fatalities, not included in this data analysis. The bulletin estimated that 42,915 people were killed in road accidents last year, up more than 10% from 2020.
One factor that is not considered when investigating road deaths is the time period in which the road deaths occurred. Many people may think that driving at night is more deadly because of poor visibility, lack of sleep, increased distraction, or increased likelihood of driving drunk. makes clear that it is not limited to A more important risk factor is the day of the week on which the incident occurs.
