New York (AP) — Tony Award winners believe that five is not enough for Angela Lansbury.
The Tony Awards Management Committee announced on Monday that the legendary actor will receive a special 2022 Tony for his lifetime achievements in the theater.
Landsbury made his Broadway debut at Hotel Paradiso in 1957, with Mame in 1966, Deerworld in 1969, Gypsy in 1974, Sweeney Todd in 1979, and Sweeney Todd in 2009. Won the Tony Award for “Bryce Spirit”. Broadway credits include “A Little Night Music,” “Gore Vidal’s The Best Man,” and “Anyone Can Whistle.”
“The contribution to Angela Lansbury’s stage is insurmountable,” Broadway League president Charlotte St. Martin and American Theater Wing president and chief executive officer Heather Hitchens said in a statement.
The “Murderer, She Written” star has six Golden Globe Awards and 18 Emmy nominations, as well as the Honorary Oscar for the Lifetime Achievement Award in the film. Lansbury also has the National Medal of Arts and the Kennedy Center Honor.
Ariana DeBose will host the Tony Awards on June 12th.
