Sanders lives downtown and at around 10:30 pm he called his 17-year-old son, Parnerius, to find a place past the curfew. She heard the bullet from one block away.
She ran up and found him lying on the ground outside the McDonald’s restaurant and CTA station near Chicago Avenue and State Street.
A chaotic and tragic video shows her pushing down his wounds and kneeling down a street in the midst of madness to stop bleeding.
“While he was bleeding, I stood there hugging my son. It took off my shirt,” she said. “One officer explained to me, for example, I covered one wound, he covered another.”
She said her son was just hanging out at McDonald’s when the fight happened before the shooting. It escalated and he was caught in a bonfire.
“So he was shot nine times, and what we’re trying to find now … it’s a waiting game,” she said.
He is now recovering in the post-surgery intensive care unit at Stroger Hospital, and Kimberly is seeking an answer.

She lives downtown with her son and two daughters. She said she needed to do something about the large group that was causing the problem.
“The kids were mixed with adults, so we need another team to get them out of the street, so my son was shot by an adult man,” she said. “Because I witnessed it in person, I was now asked some questions about the protocol: my son would have been dead if I hadn’t been there.”
Kimberly said the biggest horror right now is retaliation, asking someone for information about what happened.
The other eight victims of the shooting are between the ages of 20 and 46.
Another victim of the shooting spoke to CBS 2 after being released from the Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for two gunshot wounds.
“I was just with my friends, it’s just chilling. That’s it. Two of my friends are dead,” Sean Davis said. “People need to start putting those guns down.”
