A shooting at the Washington County Sheriff’s Office in Smithsburg, Maryland killed three people and injured two, including state police officers. Said.. The suspected employee was also injured and detained.
The sheriff’s office said in a Facebook statement that authorities responded to reports of a shooting at Columbia Machines at around 2:30 pm. Upon arrival, they found three people dead and one in danger.
During ~ Press conference Sheriff Douglas Murendore identified the murdered people as Charles Edward Stuart Jr., 31, 31 years old, late Thursday. Joshua Robert Wallace, 30 years old. And Mark Alan Frey, 50.
Brandon Chase Michael, 42, was injured. They were all current employees of Columbia Machine Inc.
The suspect who escaped from the scene was placed in the car by Maryland police. He exchanged shootouts for soldiers. Both were injured and taken to the hospital, according to the sheriff’s office. A semi-automatic pistol was recovered from the suspect’s vehicle.
Maryland Police Lt.Cnl. Bill Doflemier said on Thursday evening that soldiers identified by Maryland police as a 25-year veteran of the ministry were “on track.”
At a press conference Thursday afternoon, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan said the corresponding soldier had been shot in the shoulder.
A 23-year-old Hispanic man from West Virginia, a shooter identified by Mullendore as a current employee of Columbia Machine Inc., has been detained in a hospital and is still being treated. The charges against him are still pending.
The motive has not been decided yet.
Maryland police have appointed soldiers involved in the shooting to management positions for the rest of the investigation.
According to the sheriff’s office, the FBI and ATF are supporting the investigation.
Smithsburg is located more than 60 miles northwest of Washington, DC
