A 64-year-old landscape architect was killed by a stray bullet in a shooting that left a 26-year-old dead

Now his wife is torn and she says she can never experience this kind of pain again.

Through tears and laughter, she and her family remembered good times. The couple were high school lovers.

Larry was one of thirteen brothers.

“He was always helping someone,” said his sister Jacklin Parnell. “He always helped me. He always helped me because I’m his sister.”

Sharon and Larry Parnell have been inseparable since they were teenagers.

“I’ve been with him since I was 14, and I’m 60,” she said.

Within the last five years, Larry has set up his own lawn management company.

“He wanted to help people around the community and get young people back from the lesser Harvey,” Sharon said.

The rally was shot at West Pullman on Saturday afternoon. He was mowing his backyard for the celebration of his family’s Mother’s Day when he heard the gunshot and struck his chest.

Brandon Slater, 26, was shot deadly in front of his mother’s house. His 27-year-old friend was also shot in the foot.

Sharon said Larry’s business took him across the Chicagoland region.

“He likes to work with the community and it wasn’t just here in the suburbs. He was always out in town for work, and unfortunately he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I was there, “she said in tears.

Exactly five years ago, Sharon lost his son to gun violence.

“I haven’t even got over my child,” she said. “To fill here with my husband on Her Mother’s Day. He was supposed to be here with me.”

The rally was only two weeks before he was 65.

As their families continue to mourn, they are calling for the end of the gun violence. Sharon said we would continue to fight for an answer to the death of her son, just like her husband.
