$ 110 Million Available for Transportation Projects Outside Chicago | Illinois News

Springfield, Illinois (AP) —The Illinois Department of Transportation is accepting applications for projects to improve public transport systems outside of Chicago.

IDOT said last week that the Illinois Reconstruction Capital Construction Program would pay a total of $ 110 million for this round of projects. Projects need to expand and upgrade services, increase options and improve quality of life.

The deadline for applying for the Transit Capital Grant Program is August 31st.

A total of $ 355 million is covered by competitive construction grants for transit programs outside of Chicago. So far, the program has refurbished bus stops and passenger information kiosks in the Champaign Urbana Mass Transport Area and built a new transportation center in downtown Bloomington. Jacksonville has received a facility that will serve as headquarters for training and dispatch.

IDOT manages “public transport” information online. Eligible recipients will be invited to a webinar on July 14th to address specific questions and review the application process.
